Amilcar Price Guide

Amilcar is a name that most casual car buyers will never encounter, but within the pre-war and vintage car world it carries real weight. These small, beautifully engineered French sports cars have a dedicated international following, and if you own one – or are considering buying one – understanding how this niche market works will help you arrive at a realistic value.

What Affects Amilcar Values

Model, body style, and provenance are the three pillars. Amilcar produced around 35,000 cars across its two decades of operation, but survival rates are low and the cars that remain tend to be in the hands of knowledgeable enthusiasts. Competition history adds significant value, as does any documented connection to a known coachbuilder or original owner. Because these are pre-war cars, the quality of any restoration work and the availability of correct parts are always factors. The active Amilcar Register and various French vintage car clubs are invaluable resources for both valuation and authentication.

Sporting Models

The CGS and CGSS are the most sought-after Amilcars by a considerable margin. These small-capacity sports cars were successful in period competition and remain eligible for the most prestigious vintage rallies and events today, which underpins strong demand. The supercharged six-cylinder C6 is extremely rare and commands top money when examples surface. Even the more modest CC and CS models have a loyal following and offer an affordable entry point into vintage French motoring, though they appear on the open market infrequently.

Touring and Later Models

The M-Type touring cars and the later Compound (produced under Hotchkiss influence) are less well known and trade at lower levels than the sporting models. These are honest, interesting pre-war cars rather than headline lots, and values reflect that. If you own one, a specialist auction house with a strong European client base is likely to achieve a better result than a generalist sale. Across the range, any Amilcar in good, usable condition with clear history is a rare thing, and the market recognises that.
