The Alvis Firebird of 1934–1935 was an attempt to offer a more accessible sporting Alvis, using a 1,496cc or 1,842cc four-cylinder engine in a lighter body than the six-cylinder models. The name was optimistic — it was more of a genteel sporting tourer than a firebrand.
The Car
The Firebird used conventional Alvis mechanicals in a body designed for everyday usability rather than outright performance. It sat at the affordable end of the Alvis range during a period when the company was also producing the formidable Speed 20 and larger cars. Production was limited.
Today
The Firebird is rare and relatively little-known even within Alvis circles. Surviving examples are primarily of interest to completist Alvis collectors. Parts support comes through the Alvis Owner Club and Red Triangle, which maintain stocks for the full pre-war range.
