typical price 7 October, 2026
The Alvis 12/70 was among the last pre-war Alvis models, produced in 1938–1939 as a more modest offering alongside the larger-engined cars. It used a 1,842cc four-cylinder producing around 70bhp.
The Car
The 12/70 was designed to offer Alvis quality and engineering at a lower price point than the six-cylinder models. Body styles included saloons and tourers. Production was cut short by the outbreak of war in 1939, limiting surviving numbers to a handful. The 12/70 shared many components with other Alvis models of the period, which aids parts sourcing through the Alvis specialist network.
Today
Extremely rare. Any surviving 12/70 is a significant piece of late pre-war Alvis history. The model’s abbreviated production makes it less familiar even within the Alvis community, lending it a rarity that the more numerous pre-war models cannot match.
