Alfa Romeo Stelvio Generation / Variant Price Guides

The Stelvio was Alfa Romeo’s first SUV, and the Quadrifoglio version — with its Ferrari-derived 510bhp twin-turbo V6 — was briefly the fastest production SUV around the Nürburgring. It proved that Alfa could build a credible SUV without completely abandoning its sporting identity.

The Range

Launched in 2017 on the same Giorgio platform as the Giulia 952, the Stelvio shares its engine range: 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder in 200bhp and 280bhp forms, 2.2-litre turbo diesel with 160, 190, or 210bhp, and the Quadrifoglio’s 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 with 510bhp. Q4 all-wheel drive is standard on most variants. The eight-speed ZF automatic is the only transmission.

What Goes Wrong

Early Stelvios shared the Giulia’s quality control inconsistencies — misaligned panels, uneven shut lines, and electrical glitches including infotainment freezes and phantom warning lights. The 2.2 diesel can suffer injector problems and DPF issues on short-journey cars. The ZF gearbox software was recalibrated to reduce hesitancy on 2019-onwards models. Brake pad wear is rapid on heavier Q4 models, particularly on the front axle. Some owners report excessive tyre wear from the all-wheel-drive system’s torque distribution.

Buying

The 2.0 petrol 280bhp Q4 is the all-rounder. The Quadrifoglio is devastating but demands specialist maintenance and expensive consumables. Later cars from 2019 onwards are better assembled. The Stelvio competes against the Porsche Macan, BMW X3, and Jaguar F-Pace, and holds its own on driving engagement if not on interior quality or residual values.
