Alfa Romeo RZ Price Guide

The Alfa Romeo RZ is the open-top counterpart to the SZ — the same 75-derived chassis, the same Busso 3.0-litre V6, the same brutalist styling, but now with a fabric roof and even greater rarity. Just 278 were built before Zagato’s receivership halted production.

The Car

Launched in 1992, the RZ (Roadster Zagato) shared its running gear with the SZ coupe but almost no body panels — only the front wings and boot lid carried over. The manually operated fabric hood folded behind the seats beneath a double-humped cover that echoed Zagato’s signature design motif, absent from the hard-top SZ. The windscreen was cut down by two inches compared to the coupe and the side windows curved to match. The chin spoiler was raised an inch for improved ground clearance. Unlike the SZ, which was only available in red, the RZ came in three standard colours: Rosso Alfa, Giallo Ginestra (yellow), and Nero (black). Three cars were finished in silver and one in pearlescent white at the very end of the run.

Buying

The RZ is rarer than the SZ and commands a premium. The fabric hood mechanism is straightforward but the seals deteriorate with age. The underlying steel chassis can rust despite the composite body panels being inert. The reinforced sills added 120kg over the coupe to compensate for the lost roof. Mechanically, the 207bhp V6, transaxle gearbox, and De Dion rear suspension are all 75 components and well-understood by Alfa specialists.
