The Alfa Romeo Junior is the brand’s electric and hybrid city crossover, launched in 2024 as the smallest and most affordable model in the current range. It generated immediate controversy by being built in Poland on a Stellantis platform rather than in Italy.
The Range
Based on the Stellantis CMP platform shared with the Fiat 600 and Jeep Avenger, the Junior is available as a fully electric model with a 54kWh battery producing 156bhp and up to 250 miles of WLTP range, and a 1.2-litre three-cylinder mild hybrid with 136bhp. The electric version supports 100kW rapid charging. A hotter Veloce variant is expected. The name was originally announced as Milano before the Italian government objected to an Alfa Romeo named after Milan being built in Tychy, Poland — forcing a last-minute rebrand.
Market Position
The Junior targets young, urban buyers who want Alfa styling at an accessible price point. It competes with the Mini Cooper, Peugeot 2008, and the MiTo it spiritually succeeds. UK deliveries are underway and early impressions suggest a competent if unremarkable small crossover distinguished primarily by its styling and badge.
