The Alfa Romeo 6C is one of the most significant sports car families in pre-war motoring. Produced in various forms from 1925 to 1953, the six-cylinder cars cemented Alfa Romeo’s reputation as a maker of machines that could win on Sunday and drive to work on Monday.

The Range

The 6C designation encompassed everything from the 1500cc touring cars of 1925 to the supercharged 2500 Competizione of the post-war era. The most celebrated pre-war variants are the 6C 1750 and 6C 2300, both available with Vittorio Jano’s supercharged engines in lightweight Zagato and Touring bodies that dominated European motorsport. Post-war, the 6C 2500 continued in various body styles — the Freccia d’Oro (Golden Arrow) saloon by Touring is the most commonly encountered, while bespoke coachbuilt examples by Pininfarina, Touring, and Zagato are among the most valuable Alfas in existence.

Buying

The 6C is a serious collector’s car. Pre-war supercharged variants with competition history operate in the seven-figure range. Post-war 2500s are more accessible but still command substantial sums, particularly coachbuilt examples. Any purchase requires expert verification of provenance, mechanical condition, and body attribution. The 6C preceded the 1900 in Alfa’s lineup, which democratised the twin-cam engine concept that the 6C had pioneered for competition.
