The 1750 GTV is the 105-series Bertone coupe that most Alfisti consider the sweet spot: the quad-headlamp facelift that modernised the Sprint GT’s styling, paired with the torquier 1,779cc twin-cam engine that made the car genuinely quick rather than merely brisk.

The Car

Introduced in late 1967, the 1750 GTV brought the most significant visual change in the 105 coupe’s life. The stepped bonnet was smoothed out, the twin headlamps were replaced by four, and the indicators moved below the headlamp line. The interior was revised with a hooded central rev counter flanked by the speedometer. The 1,779cc engine produced 122bhp with twin Weber carburettors. Bigger front disc brakes, wider 14-inch wheels, and a rear anti-roll bar improved handling and braking significantly over the earlier Sprint GT.

Buying

The 1750 is the most popular engine choice among 105 enthusiasts who use their cars regularly. It has more torque than the 1600 without the weight and fuel consumption of the 2000. Early Mark 1 cars are identifiable by a slight ridge along the bonnet line where the step was smoothed out; Mark 2 cars from 1970 have a completely flat bonnet. Rust is the eternal concern. The 1750 GTV shares its mechanicals with the Spider 1750 Veloce and the 1750 Berlina saloon — parts interchange across all three.
