Alfa Romeo 156 Facelift (2004–2005) Price Guide
-
typical price 17 October, 2026
The facelifted 156, produced from 2003 to 2005, brought a restyled nose aligned with Alfa’s evolving design language, wuth the addition of a 1.9 JTDm diesel. It was a short-lived variant — just two years — before the 159 replaced it.
What Changed
The front end was redesigned with a deeper grille and revised headlights. The 1.9 JTDm diesel replaced the older JTD unit and was significantly more refined. The 2.0 JTS direct-injection engine continued, though its reputation for unreliability makes it the one to avoid. For fans of the Busso engine, you’ll have to look elsewhere as no facelifted-156 was powered by the V6. Interior revisions improved material quality in places but the fundamental architecture remained the same.
Buying
The 1.9 JTDm is the pick of the facelift range — refined, economical, and adequately quick. Platform corrosion remains the primary structural concern. The short production run means fewer facelift cars were built, though the late-model JTDm diesels are among the most numerous 156 survivors. All the usual 156 checks apply: cambelt history, suspension bushes, MAF sensor condition, and a thorough underside inspection.
