The 1300 Sprint designation appears in Alfa Romeo’s catalogue as part of the Giulietta and early Giulia ranges, covering the smaller-engined versions of the Bertone-styled coupes that sat below the full-fat GTVs in the hierarchy.

The Car

The Giulietta Sprint used a 1,290cc twin-cam producing between 65 and 100bhp depending on variant. Bertone styled the body, which established the visual template that Giugiaro would later evolve into the 105-series coupes. The Sprint Speciale by Bertone and the SZ by Zagato were more exotic low-volume derivatives. Production ran from 1954 to 1965 across the 750 and 101 series.

Buying

Early Giulietta Sprints are now firmly established collector’s cars. The Sprint Speciale and SZ command substantial premiums. Standard Sprints are more accessible and offer genuine mechanical charm from the twin-cam engine. Rust is the primary concern on all variants. The 1300 Sprint shares its engine family with every subsequent Alfa twin-cam through to the 75 — a lineage spanning over three decades of continuous development.
