The AC Six covers a range of models produced from the mid-1920s to the mid-1930s, all using John Weller’s remarkable overhead-cam straight-six engine that would go on to serve AC for over four decades. These are the cars that established AC as a maker of refined, sporting machinery.
The Car
The Six designation encompassed tourers, saloons, and sporting models using the Weller-designed OHC six-cylinder. The engine was highly advanced for the 1920s: overhead camshaft, aluminium block and crankcase, and a willing character that rewarded enthusiastic driving. In May 1924, T.G. Gillett set a world 24-hour distance record at Montlhéry in an AC Six, covering over 1,600 miles. The Weller engine went on to power the post-war 2 Litre saloon and the Ace sports car.
