The AC 16/80 was produced from 1935 to 1939, using a more powerful version of the Weller OHC six producing approximately 80bhp — a substantial output for a two-litre engine in the mid-1930s.
The Car
Available in tourer and saloon body styles, the 16/80 represented the sportier end of AC’s pre-war range. The overhead-cam six was responsive and refined, giving the car a character that distinguished it from the side-valve engines used by most British manufacturers of the period. The 16/80 sat alongside the even more powerful 16/90 in the AC catalogue.
Today
Extremely rare. Any surviving 16/80 is a significant pre-war AC that would be welcomed at vintage events and concours. The Weller engine connects it to a lineage that stretches from the 1920s through to the Ace and Cobra of the 1960s.
