The Abarth 750 was Carlo Abarth’s first major success with Fiat-based cars: a tuned version of the Fiat 600 that established the formula of extracting improbable performance from humble production mechanicals that would define the brand for the next six decades.

The Car

Produced from the late 1950s, the Abarth 750 enlarged the Fiat 600’s engine to 747cc and applied Abarth’s signature modifications: revised camshaft profiles, larger valves, a free-flow exhaust, and improved carburation. Various body styles were produced, from modified Fiat 600 shells to bespoke Zagato-designed coupes like the Record Monza and the Double Bubble. Power outputs ranged from 40 to 47bhp in road trim — modest numbers that translated into genuine speed given the car’s featherweight construction.

Buying

Genuine Abarth 750s are rare and valuable collector’s items. The Zagato-bodied variants command substantial premiums. Provenance verification is essential, as retrospective conversions from standard Fiat 600s exist. The 750 sits alongside the 850 TC and 1000 TC in Abarth’s hierarchy of Fiat 600-based competition cars.
