The Abarth 695 Rivale was a nautically themed special edition produced in 2017–2018 in collaboration with Riva, the Italian luxury yacht builder. It was one of the more visually distinctive 695 editions, with details drawn from Riva’s Aquariva speedboat that gave it an elegance unusual for a car that sounds like an angry wasp in a tin can.

Specification

The Rivale used the standard 180bhp 1.4 T-Jet with Record Monza exhaust, Brembo brakes, and Koni FSD dampers. The unique elements were cosmetic: Riva Sera Blue or Riva Portofino Grey paint with an aquamarine dashboard accent, mahogany-effect inserts echoing Riva’s signature wood trim, satin chrome mirror caps, and a numbered plaque with the Riva crest. Sabelt leather seats in saddle brown or grey leather completed the nautical theme. Available as both hatchback and convertible. Around 2,000 were produced globally.

Buying

The Rivale appeals to buyers who value the visual distinction over mechanical differentiation — it drives identically to a 695 Competizione. The Riva Blue paint is the more desirable colour. The convertible 695C Rivale adds the open-air dimension that suits the nautical theme perfectly. The Rivale occupies a gentler, more lifestyle-oriented position than the stripped-out Biposto.
